As part of being a fully integrated services and solutions provider, SapuraKencana Petroleum has expanded into development and production of petroleum resources.

We are leveraging on our expertise in geotechnical and geophysical surveys, engineering, fabrication, pipeline installation and offshore hook-up and commissioning services to deliver in record time.

As part of a consortium, we were awarded the first domestic marginal field Risk Service Contract (RSC) by PETRONAS on the strength of our diverse experiences and key assets. The RSC is for the development and production of gas from Berantai, a marginal field offshore Terengganu.

Geotech Maintenance & Services

SapuraKencana Petroleum provides maintenance and refurbishment of industrial gas turbines under the license of General Electric Oil & Gas. A dedicated General Electric Oil & Gas approved service centre has been set up to provide these services for Malaysia and South East Asia.

We also repair and refurbish single buoy moorings (SBMs) and valves, comprising overhaul of the swivel assemblies, related components and testing. With the yard facilities, experienced personnel and track record, we are the leader in SBM maintenance in Malaysia. Our workshop facility in Kemaman, Terengganu carries out maintenance and overhaul of valves mainly for storage facilities, refineries and petrochemical plants.

Other business activities carried out by the Group includes the supply, installation and commissioning of point-of-sale system that is being used by 968 PETRONAS service stations. We also provide asset management services for offshore installations and the supply, installation, commissioning and maintenance of offshore communication systems.

Our geotechnical and related services provide information to our clients on the soil propertied at the seabed which can be used during engineering foundation design and operational consideration. It also provides information on the condition below the seabed.

We own and operate 4 specially designed geotechnical and geophysical vessels to execute these services.

Drilling

This involves the operating of rigs and drilling of offshore wells.  SapuraKencana has a fleet of six mobile drilling rigs that are specially designed as a cost-efficient and flexible drilling system for various development scenarios. All six drilling rigs are currently contracted on a long-term charter basis.

The Group will be building two more units of tender-assisted drilling rigs including one semi-submersible semi tender that are more suited for development drilling.

Marine Services

The scope of the Group’s marine services comprises the provision of subsea and diving services as well as offshore support vessels.

To support the Group’s marine services, we own and operate a fleet of 9 diving/support vessels, 4 survey vessels, 24 ROVs, 4 accommodation work boats/barges/ 4 anchor handling tugs (AHT)s, 2 mobile offshore production units (MOPUs) and 1 semi-submersible barge.

Apart from the provision of an offshore support vessel for Yinson Marine Services Sdn Bhd’s project off the coast of Vietnam completed in 2011, the Group has secured contracts for several ongoing projects. These include the provision of underwater inspection and maintenance services for PETRONAS Carigali and underwater works on behalf of Chevron Australia Pty Ltd and ConocoPhillips Australia.

In providing subsea services, offshore diving and underwater related services, the Group owns and operates a fleet of 6 dynamic positioning diving support vessels, saturation diving systems and ROVs. Our capabilities, amongst others, include the following:

  • Construction, installation of structures and subsea pipelines
  • Major inspection, repair and maintenance of subsea facilities
  • Installation, repair and inspection of export/import facilities
  • Subsea inspection and repairs of floating, storage and offloading (FSO) vessels and floating, production, storage and off-loading (FPSO) systems
  • Shallow and deepwater services of remotely operated vehicles (ROVs)
  • All other underwater services related to the offshore industry

The Group’s geotechnical and related services help provide information on soil properties at the seabed as the basis for design and operational considerations. Geophysical and related services provide information on the seabed profile and contours to facilitate construction work. These services are executed though 4 specially desgned geotechnical and geophysical vessels.

Topside maintenance comprise the provision of periodic and ad hoc maintenance, upgrading and refurbishment services on existing platforms.  This includes the addition or replacement of equipment, structures and piping, among others as well as general maintenance works such as stripping and repainting of topside facilities.  These tasks are undertaken by a fleet of three engineering work barges and three work boats.

SapuraKencana also owns, operates and charters vessels to provide support for exploration and development activities. The vessels are charted to external parties on a time charter basis or used to support the Group’s other divisions in carrying out their activities.

IPF Activities

The Group has a long track record in providing offshore installation and HUC activities in Malaysia and has since expanded into regional and global markets. In our IPF activities, the Group has established strong partnerships and strategic alliances with international partners such as Seadrill, Subsea 7 and Toubro & Larsen. These partnerships have enabled the Group to jointly undertake projects abroad, expand its deepwater capabilities and enhance its human capital skills.

Over the past three years, the Group has completed a number of notable offshore installation projects:

  • Construction of four well-head platforms for the Mumbai High North Redevelopment on behalf of Larsen & Toubro/ONGC
  • Ujung Pangkah Development Offshore Phase II project for KESS (Indonesia Pangkah) Ltd
  • Devil Creek Development Project off North Western Australia for Apache Energy Limited
  • EPCIC of inter-field pipelines for the joint Development Authority Block B-17 Field Development Project on behalf of Carigali-PTTEPI Operating Company Sdn Bhd
  • Provision of EPCIC for the Kikeh Development Project for Murphy Oil Sabah Co Ltd

SapuraKencana is also involved in a number of ongoing projects, which include the Berantai Field Development Project and the Gumusut-Kakap Deepwater project in Malaysia.  Overseas projects include the Montara Development Project located in the Southern Timor Sea, Australia and the Yetagun Project located in the Gulf of Mataban, Myanmar.

With the acquisition of Clough’s marine construction division, the Group can expand its activities in subsea and deepwater segments, including the subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines (SURF) market. This will enable us to penetrate the high-end area in both shallow and deepwater construction works and stamp our footprint in the key offshore markets of Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, China, Australia, India and Brazil.

Following the IPF activities, all the separate systems installed at the platform are hooked up and commissioned. The HUC services provided by SapuraKencana include project management, procurement services, construction support, manpower, construction equipment, tools and consumables for both greenfield and brownfield projects.

Over the past three years we provided HUC services for PETRONAS Carigali’s facilities and the North Belud wellhead platforms offshore Indonesia for ConocoPhillips. Six HUC projects are currently underway, which include among others, the Sumandak Non-Associated Gas Development Project, Samarang Redevelopment Project, Kanowit Platform Project and the Puteri Platform Topside Facility restoration and modification project.
